On March 12, 2026, the Birkebeiner race from Rena to Lillehammer (54 km) will take place. The Birkebeiner race goes back to a tradition from the early 13th century, when the legendary transportation of the little king's son Håkon Håkonsson in ice and snow contributed to the rise of the Birkebeiner.
